Hachette FujinGaho is the largest foreign-owned publisher in Japan. It publishes 14 high-end magazines, aimed primarily at women, which represent a major force in the fashion, beauty and interior decorating sectors.
Elle is the uncontested leader in the international magazines market in Japan. Each yea has seen further extensions of the Elle brand: Elle Girl (March 2004), Elle Accessories (January 2006), and Elle ā Tokyo (2006) published in collaboration with the Asahi newspaper. Elle Deco and Elle ā Table also continue to be well received by the marker, while Marie Claire now attracts a sizable readership among modern Japanese women, Among the company's other titles are some of Japan's most prestigious publications: FujinGaho, the oldest magazine in Japan (it celebrates its 101st anniversary in 2006); 25 Ans, which has been the bible of luxury fashion in Japan since 1980; Vingtaine and Men's Club, a trailblazer in men's fashion.
Hachette FujinGaho produces the Elle Online website, which celebrates its 10 years anniversary in 2006, and whose audience continues to grow every year. The Custom Publishing Department (print and online) continues to develop by establishing new partnerships, especially with major department stores.
Business in South Korea continued to develop in 2005, as Elle confirmed its position as the country's number 1 international title. The title Avenue L, launched in cooperation with the Lotte department store, has proven very successful, and a new custom publishing agreement was signed with Korean Air. Meanwhile, Elle Girl and Premiere both increased their readerships. The Group aims to develop its activities in the region, which is home to a number of significant markets, through new launches or strategic acquisitions.
